“Once upon a time, there lived a genius upon the mountain top” is a story often told. But how close is the myth to reality? Is it even a myth worthy of gossip?
What is this ‘genius’ culture in the first place?
For almost all of time, there has been this prevalence of ‘Genius’ culture. That is that there exist, certain individuals, who are simply inherently capable as exemplified by their action i.e. some people are just born superior. This segregation of people hurts not only those who can’t satisfy “some set standards” but also puts strict social bounds on “who” a genius is and what they should be doing. So it discourages those down the ladder to try but at the same time limiting what the “capable” should do. Essentially it is a zero-sum game.
What does science say? (False)
Although it might hurt things socially from the society’s perspective and alienate things personally from the vantage point of an individual, it could simply be true right? Just another uncomfortable fact to live with? Well, the truth might just hurt more. Let’s examine it through some examples.
